Crescent 2 Piece Screw Point Paddle Drill Bit | 6″ x 1/2″ | CDSP-629-2

I’m making a drying rack for the new shaker style kitchen cabinet doors that I’m making out of 24 1/2” dowels, so I needed a quick and efficient way to drill 24 holes through 2x4s. These paddle drill bits where very easy to use and performed the job very well. One of the things that I liked about these bits is the option to be able to use a normal drill or an impact driver. I also really like the screw point, because it does most of the work for me. The screw pulls the drill bit through the wood and the only little bit of effort that I had to put in was after the screw point penetrated the opposite side of the wood and I needed to push the impact driver slightly to finish the hole.I was able to finish the job very quickly, much quicker and easier than with a standard drill bit. There was a little tear out on the top and bottom of the 2×4, but it’s only pine. Plus, for this job, I really didn’t care as much, it’s not like I was doing fine woodworking. I didn’t even use a backer board. I just touched up the outside edges of the holes with a hand sander, so I wouldn’t get any splitters in my hand later.The paddle cutting edges are sharp and remained that way. I didn’t perform any longevity tests, so I don’t know how long the paddle bits will last or how long before it’ll need to be resharpened. It did the job that I needed done for now.
