09/26 update….So sad the collar broke after the return period but this seller is so awesome they still agreed to replace it for us. Couldn’t ask for a better experience and we love this little collar!!This is our second bark collar. The first one became inoperable after a few years of abuse with a dog that has since passed away. That dog was a husky and never learned. We had to use the collar till her end. But I digress…We have a new dog, a puggle, that is the epitome of the little yappy, super obnoxious dog that we all know and hate. We hoped she would outgrow it, but she only got worse. She barks at absolutely everything, even the wind rustling the trees. And she doesn’t stop. She’ll lay down and keep barking incessantly long after the trigger. Even holding her mouth shut didn’t work. She’d continue to bark through the clenched hand. It was a living nightmare. Every time someone entered the room, even if they just went to the bathroom and came right back, it would start all over again. The front door, people walking out front, the planes flying overhead, the gardener, the microwave, absolutely everything.But she’s the wife’s baby, and it took alot of convincing, until one day in a fit of rage I just ordered it without her permission.I spent alot of time reading the manual that is printed in the worlds tiniest font, but it’s a very straightforward device and I really appreciate the simplicity of operation. I definitely spent way too much time over thinking it. It’s plug and play. But better safe than sorry.Put it on the first night after I felt I understood it well enough and waited for trigger. She barked, then I heard the warning tone and she paused. Barking continued and then it vibrated, which sent her spiraling, but she still resumed barking after recovering. Then the shock and holy cow! She must have launched 6 feet off the ground and right out of the collar. Scurried under the table and “no bark”. Reattached the collar and made sure it was latched properly and waited for another trigger. BOOM! She starts barking. As soon as she heard the tone, she lost her mind. Started running in circles not sure what to do and let out another bark…there went the vibrate. She runs outside in a panic and barks one more time and then we heard the yelp and knew she got the shock. Brought her back inside and sat with her on the couch for a LONG time. One trigger after another came and went and she just laid there. After a couple hours of peace, I took the collar off and disabled the shock mode. That was over a week ago and she hasn’t barked more than twice, both times, the tone instantly silenced her. Was it a win? I don’t know yet.Her personality and demeanor have changed completely. I think maybe she lived to bark. Like, barking is what gave her the spark, gave her life meaning. Not being able to bark anymore seems to have taken the wind out of her sails. She’s not nearly as playful and active, and does a lot of laying around compared to running around the yard barking at everything, wagging her tail and having a great time. It feels like a hollow victory. She’s still a super happy and well cared for dog and we never re-enabled shock mode as it’s not necessary. But she just seems off now and we hope time will heal.Every dog’s different. The shock collar didn’t really phase our husky, but it did stop her barking. Side note…the bark collar we had for the husky was triggered by other nearby barking dogs which was kind of sad. I think those are super awesome features and wish we could use them. But the warning tone spins her out so much I can’t imagine it would be effective for her. I can’t in good conscience press a button that I know will be that mentally traumatizing for her, even if is just a warning tone.
