Be very careful to read the title of this product listing before you order this product. Make sure you see that it is confusing and misleading. At first it says it is a hot shoe cover then it says it is a cold shoe cap. Those are two very different things. This may not be a major concern but maybe it is. The reason is that this cover (and I will explain that this is really about more than one cover) is specifically designated for the Fujifilm X-T5 camera, which of course has a hot shoe. I’m assuming you know what that is if you own that camera. In that particular camera, as is true in many other cameras with a hot shoe, some of the pins supply voltage and some are used for grounding. The specifics of all that are not what’s important, what’s important is that any item that has a plus terminal is grounded when touched to a negative terminal, which in something like a camera, with sophisticated electronics inside, can cause serious damage.HOW THIS IS IMPORTANTThe reason this is important is that the primary cap in this collection of several of them is made of metal. The average person would not easily be able to know if that metal simultaneously touches any or all of the pins in the camera’s hot shoe. If it does, many experts say that could spell trouble. Even if the camera originally had a metal insert it was designed for that camera, inserting one from another brand is where the concern is. If you used any of the other included covers, they are each all plastic, so there is no concern at all. This is not to say to avoid this product, only to say be sure you know what you’re doing.DO YOU NEED A HOT SHOE COVERAgain the experts have opinions, but they are not all the same opinion. On one hand there is the theory that a cover help keep the pins from getting dirty or bent, and that has validity. If you rarely use a flash unit on your camera that might seem to be a good idea. It could be easy for debris to get under the side rails and that would not be good. Now on the other hand there are those who say no, that sliding a cover in and out or even having in in place for extended periods could weaken the strength of the side rail pins, and that seems to make sense too. Many professional photographers treat such things as hot shoe inserts as bling, things to get in their way during a hectic photo session. That makes sense too.YES NO MAYBEI got these and chose the simplest design, no contrasting colors. I do like to keep my contacts clean and I think that outweighs the other concerns. The aluminum cap is beautifully machined, fits perfectly and is arched a bit on the underside so I don’t think it comes close to the contacts. And having the extra plastic ones can come in handy for my little personal camera because the covers are always getting lost. The value is fine with me and the bottom line is something like this is a personal choice.
